Stage 3 - Part 4 - "Girls, Girls, Girls"

I had to keep asking... she wasn't saying anything!!!

Key: RMP = Random Male Player
"RMP 1: Yo, FineFuzzy, go fuck yo mama something, ya bitch.
RMP 2: Fuckin’ faggot.
RMP 3: [largely unintelligible]
RMP 1: Fuckin’ dumb bitch.
Friend: That sucked.
RMP 1: You know that’s your friend, white cracker. We know that’s your friend.
RMP 2: Yeah man, like… that’s totally, Diddy [referring to RMP 1], totally that’s his friend, man.
RMP 3: Fuckin’ faggot, man.
RMP 4: Yeah, totally.
RMP 2: Fuckin’ totally, dude.
RMP 1: Spent the whole game killin’ his own teammates, man.
RMP 2: There is no fucking doubt in my mind that that’s their friend, man, Diddy. I’m telling you.
Friend: He’s not OUR friend.
RMP 3: Gimme a break.
RMP 1: Shut up, you bust down bitch [referring to me]
Friend: We got 6, and you guys got 4. [referring to team size].
RMP 4: [unintelligible]… got raped by a bitch who belongs in the kitchen.
Me: But instead I’m here, kicking your ass.
RMP 2: You ain’t kicking NOBODY’S ass, you fuckin’ slut bitch!
[room dissolves into laughter and unintelligible yelling]"

I return kicking and punching into the fray purely because this topic has launched an unfortunate stir in my chi, and I cannot let it rest.

As those you who know me with know, I love woman. I genuinely think, that if I go through life for a certain amount of time without a woman, I will die. Like a flower without water, or a pornstar without clinical check-ups. They are a species that will forever be a mystery to me, but I would explore and study to my last breath, at which point I will try and squeeze in a few more bits of knowledge!

There is a line that has yet to be drawn, however, when girls and women alike hit the gaming scene and join the jubilant joys of playing online with everyone else. This all applies to the internet in general it seems, but I do not have the patience or time to discuss ALL of that!

The general consensus is that the gaming world is dominated by men. No surprises, games are considered boys toys, and the largest selling games involve, shooting, maiming, killing, hunting, exploding and the sort. I can't beat around the bush, they're not exactly marketed at the female gender. So you can imagine that a guy might get excited to discover a member of the opposite sex shares an interest. A lot like when a girl shows interest in cars, or football, or touching you in your privates. Sadly, it would appear that examples of men in online games prove that girls are not quite completely safe from slobbering cock wielding cretins.

Now, while I myself have never came across (and hope never have to) the sexist abuse and torment a girl receives when playing online, the above is evidence that it does indeed happen; unfortunately that's not the only girl gamer who has received so much abuse that a website was warranted. Here's another.

I think I'm gonna... oh... ooooh.... oh.
So what is it that makes men behave this way? And why am I continuing to demonstrate why I am ashamed of my gender? It is pissing me off to be honest. Once again an unfortunate group of people within a culture I love and embrace ruins it for everyone! Granted these are men who are probably very young respectively, no idea of social etiquette and the very thought of a girl even touching a console controller gets them giddy like dog with quite literally, a bone.

It is disgusting to think, just because this would not happen in public. Certainly not this level of sexism. I can only imagine it is similar to particular racist groups who simply have not been exposed enough to other lifestyles to understand them, so instead they build a horrendous picture in their heads from where ever, and consider themselves above it. In regards to disturbing, predatory behaviour, the combination of 'randy', 'male' and 'internet anonymity' appears to be excuse all instances. Now I think about it, it reminds me of this...

Now there is an argument out there when it comes to men's online courting abilities, suggesting that girls poke their necks out into gaming for attention. They crave male attention, and secretly love the idea that faceless men from all over the world are cyber-drooling over the fabricated image of her feminine form. Put it that way, and I have met girls like this in the flesh. "Prick Teasers" are a dangerous sort, and I know for a fact I have met one of the worst; it just saddens me to know they are still out there. But like anonymity does not excuse uninvited solicitation of other players online, just because a woman might like the idea of men giving her a lot of attention doesn't mean there is no line drawn on how far you go.

There is a nagging fact that is highly unlikely, but still scares me! We have mostly heard of tales of players visiting other players over a minute misunderstanding and almost literally killing each other, so what's to say that one unwitting girl who is just innocently being sociable and gets unlucky? It's all very "The Sun" newspaper I know, but it's not a case that it will happen tomorrow
or this year, I'm just saying it's not completely impossible.
"U wana PM wiv me? U gt pics of ur tits?"

At this point, very little can be done, and in a brief Facebook conversation between myself and a new friend, there appears to be one option. With the evidence girls can gather from horrific sexual approaches, send it off to the respective console company and have their account dealt with... as in removed. Personally, I would side with the first company to do this, even if it was the Nintendo Wii. Microsoft already operate an appropriately humiliating account disputing regime, wherein if you try to argue any disciplinary action taken on your account, chances are they will show exactly what you did wrong. Some of it was hilarious! I can't seem to find it anymore though...

It is sad, as I still see games to be for everyone. Race, gender, creed and lifestyle. They shouldn't discriminate or alienate as an industry, and I don't believe they do. Unfortunately, as is the case with their general social practice, it is the gamers themselves that segregate their own culture with crass, poor and embarrassing behaviour. I can only cast our memories back to the Spore release, and just recently the incident with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's user reviews. I sit, head shaking in hands. Where there is still hope, however, as something women do very well (and I am GENUINELY not at all mocking) they have created their own space as gamers AWAY from men, so they can game and exist in peace. Good for you! (Was that patronizing? Too late... it's been written)
