Entry Level 1

To most people who at least study games, the industry is like that woman (or man) you have always wanted to sleep with, but have been a little too nervous to approach in case have your flies open or have overlooked the piss stain on your trouser thigh. Understandable. The industry compiles itself of the elite of designers, writers, artists and composers.

There may be few, however, who see the industry in a stronger light. To them, the games industry is like that woman (or man) you would not want to sleep with straight away. You want to seduce it, buy it dinner, sing a song and even introduce it to your parents. Then proceed to rock its world with gifts, witty anecdotes, and the kind of bedroom activity that would be too exciting even for 90% of the Internet. I would like include myself as a member of that team!

I want to shake things up, change things, obviously make some triple A games in the process, but ultimately make people see the industry differently. With the stigma of playing games, and indeed computer games in general, marching with the pride and ignorance of a BNP member, I continue to feel proud everytime people ask me where my interests lie. I tell them it is with the "lonely saddos who spend all day in their room, no exposure to the sun and have no friends". The shock almost overwhelms them, and I stand triumphant over the narrow minded prejudice that plagues gamers and indeed games.

What did the five fingers say to the face?

The truth hurts, and I want to dish out a palm full of Honesty Oil across the cracked faces of the 'Cool Kids' and say whether you are a presenter, designer, programmer, producer, community manager or tester I think (as I am sure many will too) you are f***ing cool and I envy what you do and who you do it for, because I would give up quite a lot to be where you are right now. That says a lot considering I struggle to give up on seconds when I can feel my belt line tightening by the day.


Do not take me for a fool here, I know how much money goes into the industry, and comes out of it. The $360 million earned by Call of Duty: Black Ops in 24 hours is hard to miss. The 1,000 staff members and $100 million on GTA 4 says a lot, although the $500 million taken within the 1st week makes it worth it, no?

But there is so much more out there for the industry to grab, and the only thing stopping it is the generation who believe they are 'too cool' for computer games (not the ones who simply do not play them, that is fine. FYI I detest football, FACT). You might think there is more, but the topics I shall be discussing later on may start you questionning...
