Weight... you mean they fit now?!

Something is taking place here. You may remember my last post about weight loss in computer games and how I had made a purchase of EA's recent venture EA Sports Active 2. Now at the beginning of this week I weighed in (and I CHECKED) at 19st ~294lbs~ exactly. I set myself a short term goal to make it through at least 1 week which has been achieved as of today.

Allow me to cut to the chase. It appears to be working! I know, right?! Now, I am not THAT stupid although that is arguable amongst my closer friends, and I am thinking this is more about how spending less than £10 on a set of scales will have you lied to more than a cheating spouse. After my 30 minutes session today, of reverse crunches, rock climbing, mountain boarding, sprinting, walking, arm curls, shoulders press, split lunges, reverse lunges... sorry what was I saying... yes, weighed myself. The scales did their usual Dance of the Macabre, while the pin bounced up, then down, then up, then down again ever closing on its final depressing ultimatum. To my delight, it did not land where I wanted. No no, it landed lower

According to the scales I have sweat this fish out... don't ask why I keep using fish
Now I am not going to tell you where it landed, sorry, because you will all turn off your computer and never want to hear from me again. But according to the scales I had lost a rather considerable amount of weight. Perhaps too much considering my own physical presence. So I took it with a pinch of salt (or should I say, celery?) and accepted that I had lost SOME weight.

If you are questioning whether or not I am surprised this took place seeing as I bought the damn product, then the answer is yes, I am surprised. Fitness and weight loss has been on the lips and ears of what I can only calculate as 150% of the population... yeah that many, and with every Z-List celebrity and then Davina McCall jumping on this fitness bandwagon (I'm sorry but they could have found someone MUCH more inspiring to host Biggest Loser UK), when video games started doing it, I was such a sceptic that I thought it would die in the water as an idea. Gamers do not get fit. Gamers do not show concern for their health, why on earth would they give a shit?! How wrong I was...

It is true though, it is only the first week, and it would seem that common place for this novelty to grow tired is after the first month, or as some groups have proven, 5 -6 hours of collected working out. So with a little give on either side, I am supposedly 25% of the way to complete and utter apathy about my health. So I am to continue trucking until that point, and then hopefully truck on!

Hope you are all well and good, and I'll see you on Monday.

  1. I agree the stereotypical gamer isn't completely in touch with fitness and well being, however, these days you have to take into account the casual gamer. I'm sure the majority of "gamers" that purchase the fitness games are not gamers of our calibre. I would assume, thanks mostly to the Wii, that the boom in fitness games is because the same demographic that buy all those fitness DVD's are now one and the same.

Either way, good job shedding those lbs man ;D
